Exploring the Area

Located in northern Alabama, Decatur is a small community with a lot of history. Decatur was called Rhodes Ferry Landing back in the 1800s because of a man named Rhodes, who had a ferry on a nearby river. Decatur is known for a large number of museums, and one of them is the Blue and Gray Museum. Dedicated mostly to the Civil War, this museum has hundreds of artifacts and authentic weapons from that turbulent time in American history. Smith Lake campers may tour the museum with a guide who will tell them more about each exhibit. Almost every artifact displayed here has an interesting story behind it, and you could spend a couple of hours learning about the past.
