Getting Outdoors

Camping at Lake Poinsett State Park allows visitors to enjoy an array of outdoor activities, from hiking and wildlife watching to guided kayak and canoe tours. The 640-acre lake is a much-loved fishing hole with anglers from near and far. Pack your fishing gear in the campervan rental and try your luck reeling in bass, catfish, and bream. Find a good spot from the shore, or take advantage of the accessible fishing pier.

Boating is another popular activity with those camping at Lake Poinsett State Park. Launch out onto the placid waters of the lake in your kayak or canoe. Motorized watercraft isn't permitted on the lake. No boat? No problem — the park offers boat rentals.

If you'd rather hike instead, the one-mile Great Blue Heron Trail is just the ticket for those looking to get lost in nature. Pack a picnic basket and enjoy a snack in the picnic area afterward. The athletes among you might like to play a game of soccer or catch on the ball field in the day-use area. Or, let the kids burn some energy on the playground.
