Build by the US Army Corps of Engineers in 1942 by damming the Fourche LaFave River, the lake covers an area of 3,550 acres and is bordered by the Ouachita National Forest on the south shore. Originally, the lake was created for flood control and water resource purposes. Getting Outdoors
Nimrod Lake is a water sports lover’s dream. Thrill-seekers will enjoy the chance to go water skiing, jet skiing, and tubing while camping with an RV here. Due to the size of the lake, there is plenty of room for everyone to pick up some speed safely. There are also plenty of places to go swimming along the shore in the many recreation areas that have been developed by the Corps of Engineers, which is a great summer activity. In these recreation areas, you’ll also find other amenities such as playgrounds and fish cleaning stations, all of which can be a great addition to a stay for Nimrod Lake campers.
Camping at Nimrod Lake
There are several different campgrounds for Nimrod Lake campers to make use of, all of which are very close to the shore. River Road Campground sits by the dam and has 21 shaded and spacious sites and beautiful scenery. There is also a large group day-use picnic area, boat ramp, picnic area, dump station, and both electricity and water hookups.
Exploring the Area
There are lots of great attractions in the area surrounding Nimrod Lake. For some family fun, Magic Springs Theme and Water Park is just a short distance away and offers hours of fun and excitement for both young and old. There is something for all ages, with thrill rides for those that want an adrenaline rush, family rides, and rides for the little ones. In the warmer months, there is also a water park that is filled with a range of slides, pools, and activities. It would be easy to spend a whole day here without getting bored.
