When you rent an RV in this part of California, it’s imperative that you make a day trip to Joshua Tree National Park. The park is one of the crown jewels of Southern California wildernesses, with some of the most unique landscapes in the country. The namesake trees and otherworldly rock formations will have you feeling like you’re hiking on another planet.

For something closer to home though, check out Azusa River Wilderness Park just north of town. The miniature wilderness has a few hiking trails that are enough for a short day hike, however, you’ll have to head a few miles down the road to the San Gabriel Reservoir if you want to go for a swim or do some fishing.

The nearest Walmart to Azusa can be found not too far away in the town of Covina, but you’ll definitely need to ask the manager for permission to camp there as many of the company’s stores in California do not permit overnight parking. The larger fuel bays at these truck stops will be easier to maneuver with your big rig and are more likely to have dump stations.

If you’re hoping to get some culture while in Azusa, plan for a night out at the Haugh Performing Arts Center. This small but very active playhouse puts on several live performances each month ranging from the classics to more contemporary works. There’s also the Covina Center for the Performing Arts, which frequently host tribute bands of some of music’s most popular acts. However, if you’re looking for retail therapy, head down to nearby Covina where there are considerably more shops and malls to browse through.

If you’re searching for something a little more offbeat, visit the so-called Bridge to Nowhere, which was originally intended to connect the San Gabriel Valley with the town of Wrightwood. While construction on the bridge was completed, the intended road was not, as a flood wiped it out in the late 1930s. It now serves as a pedestrian bridge to trails in the Sheep Mountain Wilderness and as a popular bungee jumping location. Another slightly strange sight is the Rubel Castle in Glendora, which consists of a caboose, clocktower, drawbridge, an empty graveyard, and a lot of antiques.
