Getting Outdoors

While the Crystal Lake Recreation Area got its name from the lake, it is not the most popular attraction in this part of the mountains. Crystal Lake campers are usually here for hiking, and that shouldn't be surprising because there are more than fifteen trails passing by this body of water. Leading in all directions around San Gabriel Mountains, the trails are well-maintained by San Gabriel Mountains Trailbuilders, so these paths are safe to use all year round. Some of the trails will provide you with breathtaking views of the mountains and the canyon. The Windy Gap Trail is short, easy, and suitable for new hikers, but it also has a historical significance. It will lead you to the Pacific Crest Trail.

Camping at Crystal Lake

After making a decision to go camping with an RV at Crystal Lake, you will be thrilled to find out that the camp is very close to the lake itself and surrounded by picturesque views. The campground accommodates both RVs and tents and offers around twenty RV spaces. The campgrounds are equipped with showers, a laundry room, a picnic area, a general store, and a café.

Exploring the Area

Once you need a break from motorhome camping at Crystal Lake, hit the road and visit some other sights around the San Gabriel Mountains. Head out in the direction of Azusa, and you will get to the Bridge to Nowhere. This unusual tourist attraction was built in 1936 as a part of a plan to connect Wrightwood to the San Gabriel Valley. The bridge was left unfinished after a series of floods that devastated the area and canceled the entire project. Nowadays, bungee jumpers can often be seen on the bridge, as well as other visitors who want to see the unusual arch bridge in the middle of the mountains.
