The unincorporated area of Los Olivos can be found between the cities of Santa Maria and Santa Barbara in central California. While it isn’t situated on the coast, it is close enough to the stunning beaches of California to benefit from heavenly sea breezes and laid-back vibes that are often found in coastal enclaves. Los Olivos first started out as a small homestead when a man by the name of Alden March Boyd bought a sizable chunk of land and planted several thousand olive trees hoping to capitalize on the warm Mediterranean climate of the region. To reflect these olive-based origins, El Olivar and El Olivos where two of the towns used to identify the town before the locals finally settled on the name Los Olivos.

Los Olivos together with a few other towns make up the Santa Ynez Valley, a scenic area seemingly existing in a world of its own. This peaceful community is one of the more desirable places to live, with countless Hollywood celebrities opting to build their homes in Los Olivos away from the bright lights of Los Angeles. When you search for an RV in Los Olivos, you too can live the high life, touring the countryside in search of elegant vineyards and epic scenery.

The Great Outdoors

The town of Los Olivos is more than just a suitable place to rent an RV. It leaves vacationers in a near perfect position to explore the coastal regions of central California, with a great deal of flexibility and freedom to create your very own itinerary. Montaña de Oro State Park is a fabulous place to bring our Los Olivos motorhome rental, for instance, with towering cliffs, rolling hills, canyons, and coastal plains. Hiking, biking, and horseback riding are commonly enjoyed methods of seeing the park. Guests can climb to the summit of the small mountains overlooking the ocean for some stunning views or spend their days on the sandy beaches cooling off in the refreshing California surf. A hidden campground near a tranquil beach cove makes for some pretty stellar camping, and there is a living history museum on site too.

Morro Bay State Park is a few miles north of Montaña de Oro State Park and straddles the Morrow Bay on either side. This park is a fantastic place to surf, sail, fish, hike, or go birdwatching, with a large assortment of migratory birds calling the area home. The Morro Bay itself is an underwater preserve meant to help protect the invaluable marine life in it. There are lots of archaeological sites in the park left behind by the coastal Chumash indigenous people who once lived in the area.

You can take your Los Olivos RV rental to Los Padre National Forest which happens to be right down the road from town. This two-million-acre wilderness covers a wide swath of the mountainous land by the sea, with enormous potential for outdoor recreation and excitement. Cachuma Lake Recreation Area, in particular, is one of its many designated recreation spots where you can safely camp out in your Los Olivos camper rental while reconnecting with nature. There is a marina, ample space to swim, lakefront camping, and a whole lot more when you take a ride to this recreation area in the national forest.

Bringing your Los Olivos RV rental to Channel Islands National Park might not be possible but you should still consider taking a day trip out to this incredible natural habitat that has been left largely undeveloped. A ferry can take you to this stunning island group off the coast, where you can delight in the absolutely sublime beauty of the park.

RV Parks

The first place that comes to mind when you need a place to camp at overnight is the aforementioned Cachuma Lake Recreation Area. There is a large marina at the recreation area, as well as ample space to boat, swim, and fish.

Ocean Mesa RV & Campground is a little park by the ocean, right across the road from El Capitan State Beach. Enjoy splendid views of the sunset from your Los Olivos camper rental during your stay and cool off in the swimming pool. There is also a spa and a convenience store on site for all your relaxation and shopping needs.

Flying Flags RV Resort & Campground offers an off-leash dog park, multiple pools, poolside cabanas, a fitness center, a cafe, a camp store, a craft-cocktail lounge, and a splash water park for children at this recreational park.

City Attractions

One of the first things that comes to mind when people think of Los Olivos is the rich heritage of winemaking and grape growing in the valley. Los Olivos has a reputation for churning out incredible wine, almost like a Napa Valley of Southern California. In town, there are lots of wineries and places to sample these local creations too.

The Hans Christian Andersen Park is a lovely Danish-style village park, with fabulous architecture and lovely windmills. There are little restaurants, bakeries, and other souvenir stops in this Danish village, and you can stroll around taking pictures and feel like you are in a European city. The Hans Christian Andersen Museum is another local attraction that reflects the large Danish population in the area. The museum covers the life and works of the famed Danish author known for his fairy tales.

Solvang Vintage Motorcycle Museum is a great place to spend a few hours or spend a rainy day, with an impressive collection of antique motorcycles and other machines. Nearly 100 motorcycles comprise the museum’s collection, with several one-of-a-kind bikes that can only be found there.
