After picking up your RV rental in Marina, head down to Locke-Paddon Community Park located in the center of the city. The park’s many trails and pathways weave between ponds and streams that house a variety of wildlife species. A favorite for birdwatchers, the area is inhabited by grebes, coots, warblers, mallards, blackbirds, sparrows, and more. Drive over and visit Fort Ord Dunes State Park for one of the region’s best views. The towering dunes and beaches offer great opportunities to canoe, kayak, surf, and enjoy a picnic lunch. Wander up and down the park’s trails to capture great views of the four miles of ocean beach. Platforms atop the bluffs let visitors gaze into the seemingly endless Pacific. Wander through nearly 400-acres at the mouth of the Salinas River. The national wildlife refuge is a beautiful mosaic of saline ponds, riparian habitats, great beaches, and coastal dunes. Thousands of migratory birds flock to the sanctuary here in the spring and fall to line the coast. See some of the many endangered species that are protected here, including the western snowy plover, Smith's blue butterfly, and Monterey spineflower, along with dozens of waterfowl big and small. Moss Landing State Wildlife Area, north of the city towards Santa Cruz, is another favorite destination for campers renting an RV near Marina to visit. The 872-acre property is apart of the largest unaltered saltmarsh on the California coast. Because of the uniqueness of the habitat, hiking Moss Landing offers an outstanding opportunity to see a wonderful array of extraordinary wildlife, such as over 300 species of birds, harbor seals, and sea otters.
