Take a two-hour drive to Carlsbad to explore Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. This historic park covers 27 acres and was once home to Leo Carrillo, an actor, and conservationist. Visitors can tour the ranch where they’ll learn more about Carrillo’s life and the native plants and animals of California. Some highlights of this historic park include peacocks wandering the grounds, massive agave plants, and old windmills scattered around. There is also a four-mile loop trail circling around the grounds that will take hikers through marshes and woodlands. This trail is also a favorite nesting spot for the California gnatcatcher.
