5.0I had a wonderful time with the Fern & Fog Sprinter van. The walkthrough at pickup was thorough without being overwhelming, and the van manual was a great reference when I needed a refresher on the water system and diesel heater. The van is spacious and well-built. The electrical system kept up easily with my usage (fridge, lights, phone charging, and a couple of cooking sessions). The diesel heater made the cool mornings/evenings feel luxurious. The van has plenty of accessible storage options. I mostly used the overhead shelf above the driver’s and passenger’s seats. The dinette area was easy to convert from dining to sleeping, and the cushions were comfortable (on the firmer side). I slept great every night. The van is large, but it handles incredibly well. The backup camera, blind spot monitoring, and upgraded suspension give you a lot of confidence. It didn’t take long to get comfortable driving it. I would absolutely rent again and have already recommended it to friends and family.

Frequently asked questions
Q.
How do I empty the gray water tank?
A.
Sink and shower water drain into their respective gray water tanks. The sink gray water tank is 11 gallons, while the shower gray water tank is 15 gallons. The gray water tanks can overfill, so you will need to be mindful of how much water is being dumped into them. If you need to empty the tanks, please use an approved dump station. Emptying the tanks is done by flipping a switch in the control panel. I’ll show you exactly where it is at pickup, and there’s a step-by-step guide in the van.
Q.
How does the water system work?
A.
The freshwater tank feeds the sink and shower through a 12V pump. Turn the pump switch on, open the faucet, and water flows like at home. The van has a water heater onboard, so you will always have access to hot and cold water. The van will come prefilled with 33 gallons of fresh water, and I’ll show you how to fill the tank and how to monitor levels so you don’t run out during your trip.
Q.
Can I use the van in cold weather?
A.
Yes, within reason. The diesel heater keeps the interior cozy, but any RV water system can freeze in very low temps. For winter trips I’ll review your route and temps with you and explain when to limit or avoid using the water system.
Q.
How does the heater work at night?
A.
The diesel heater uses the vehicle’s fuel tank and sips a very small amount of fuel. Set your preferred temperature on the control, and it will cycle on and off to keep the van comfortable overnight. The van is well insulated, and there are plenty of blankets to choose from. There have been only a handful of times that I had to run the heater overnight.
