Payette Lake lies in central-western Idaho, surrounded on many sides by the Payette National Forest. The lake is nestled beneath the peaks of the West Mountains near the towns of New Meadows, McCall, and Council. Freshwater Payette Lake has been known to the Native American tribes of Idaho for millennia, but it was French Canadian fur-trapper Francois Payette that gave his name to the river and the lake. Payette Lake’s beautiful mountainous views, excellent recreational opportunities, and closeness to local towns have made it the place to take an RV rental. Access to Payette Lake with a rental RV is surprisingly easy, as Highway 95 runs parallel to the lake.
