Only a few miles north from Farewell Bend State Recreation Area is the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. This 23,000-square-foot center is full to the brim with exhibitions, interactive displays, and living history demonstrations. This plethora of information showcases the history of Oregon through the eyes of the Native Americans, the first European settlers, and everything that went with it. Being such an integral part of the nation’s history and its expansion west, a visit here is a must when in the area.

When campers head a few miles east to the town of Weiser, they will be able to visit the Archie Larsen House. This house was built during the first years of the 20th century and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Designed by the famous architect John E. Tourtellotte, this building was dubbed the two-story bungaloid house and is notable for its significant architectural style. Fans of architecture and historic buildings will love the Archie Larsen House.

Weiser is also home to the Snake River Heritage Center, a museum dedicated to the history and culture around the snake river. As the Snake River is the location of the Farewell Bend State Recreation Area, a visit here will tie in perfectly with the whole camping trip. Located in the Hooker Hall at the site of the Intermountain Institute, the Snake River Heritage Center is wall to wall history and culture. A step inside this building is a step into the Snake River itself, and visitors will leave with a broader understanding of the area and its history.
