Near the center of Kentucky, between Louisville and Lexington, is the popular outdoor destination of Taylorsville Lake State Park. This state park was originally built for flood control of the Salt River in 1983, and in modern-day is an extensive state park with a large lake. Taylorsville Lake covers over 3,000 acres when at its average capacity and has over 75 miles of shoreline for guests to explore. The lake and park are named after Richard Taylor, an early pioneer landowner who donated the first 60 acres of land for the town of Taylorsville.
