*Update: Almost all of our ADD ONS are now available at NO Extra Charge! Just make your free selections! We have been told that driving a Land Rover on Maui was the best experience ever. Guest do not feel like a labeled tourist in the evident tourist driven jeeps all around the island. They were travelling and camping like a local and with our 4x4 off-road Range Rover with air suspension makes going anywhere to the island a breeze, including the deep sandy beaches or the mud roads of Hana. Or just take it to one of the many official campsite locations on Maui or look into the many host shared plots of land on camp hipster dot com where you will find tons of awesome places to camp. You will comfortably fit 2 adults and one kid in this XL top of the line camper setup. Look up Roof Nest Sparrow XL which is what we have and is top of the line. What sets this apart from other campers is the ease of setup and takedown. Its all hydraulic and hard-shell so no covers to fuss with. It also includes a roof rack on top so you can still pack on a kayak or surfboard (Must request that we install this prior to trip). Camp without compromise! Please Watch This Video ON HOW TO Operate THE Tent. This IS THE Smaller Roofnest Sparrow (AS Ours IS THE XL That CAN Sleep A 3RD Child) BUT Operate With THE Same Concept. https://youtu.be/yIXkNRVc_9kWhat's included *UPDATE: Almost all of our ADD ONS are now available at NO EXTRA CHARGE! We camped in the snow at Hosmer's Grove, We camped at Haleakala National Park on the Hana Side, Papaluaua Park, Camp Olowalu, Polo Poli, Waianapanapa State Park, and about 30 other places that are unofficial ( that I cannot recommend ), but once your here, you will see there are plenty of places and if camping off the cuff is not for you then there is hipcamp dot com that has dozens of rentable personally owned camping areas to stay at all around the island.PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO ON HOW TO OPERATE THE TENT. I highly recommend that you are physically ok to climb up and down a ladder to the tent which has a limit of 300 lbs per person. This was our first trip to Maui and Ed’s Rover was an easy choice for us, hands down the best way to experience the island. Pick up and drop off of the vehicle were very easy and flexible.
Ed was awesome to deal with and was available throughout our trip to answer any questions or concerns.
The Rover and Roofnest were a perfect combo, awesome vehicle to explore the island and as mentioned it was nice to not feel like a labelled tourist. The tent was very easy to set up and very comfortable. The ad on camping gear completed the set up and everything we needed was loaded up and ready in the Rover.
Amazing trip we would definitely do it all over again, an Maui speaks for itself.

We had the most wonderful adventure with the Land Rover and hardshell camper on Maui. Not only did we save money by combining our housing and car rental, we had an adventure for 60+ couple. We traveled the whole island. We stayed up on the volcano mountain at 11,000 ft at 40+ degrees, but on Cliffs on ocean on Hana Rd, and last a beach. The 4 wheel drive helped on Hana Rd and to get to beach. Ed was so gracious in getting us all we needed for trip. We took chairs, generator, and ice chest extra from him. Ed was available by phone or text. We sent him pics as we went, too. His availability made it easier as it was first time to visit Maui. We ate one meal a day at a restaurant, and went to grocery store for breakfast Danish and Frappuccino, and ate healthy and non healthy snacks for dinner. Since it got dark by 6 pm, we wanted to find a spot and set up. Also picked up fruit on roadside parks. If you do this, I recommend downloading Gypsy Guide for Maui with Hanna Rd. This is a travel GPS guide that helps you around the island for attraction, history, and eats. We pulled off the road on each night we camped at no cost. It is expensive to stay in State and National Parks, and reservations needed way in advance. Lots of pull outs that do not have No Trespassing Signs or a gate to a residence or ranch. Also adds to spontaneous travel. Divide island into the days you want to travel. This helps in keeping you in an area within the attraction list to be seen. Hana Rd. will take a full day from sun up to sundown to see and participate in the beauty, drive, and getting out to look at botanical gardens, beaches, and waterfalls. Going to the top of the volcano mountain can also take almost a day.
Cons to Maui and camping for us was having a hard time finding a bathroom. Most bathrooms were not available even if you bought a meal or an item. So bring toilet paper with you but please do not litter and dispose when trash cans available. No showers available even at beaches as we saw on the other islands. So bring deodorant and maybe wet wipes. We turned in the camper the night before we were to leave, and rented a hotel room to take a shower before we flew back to Texas.
Pro: Maui is beautiful. Get out and see the island and have an adventure. Get a bucket list of must sees, then take an adventure. Ed made everything easy and we highly recommend.

WOW! What an incredible way to visit Maui! The Range Rover was absolutely perfect for the entire island. The roofnest was easy to pop-up and very comfortable! Our host, Ed, was awesome. He was waiting at the airport to drop-off the vehicle at the airport the moment we landed. He was very helpful, friendly, and knows the island well. I got confused with some of our dates and times when I reserved due to the time zone changes. Ed was very flexible, accomodating and understanding with my several change requests (dumb me!). We added some of his extras like beach chairs, cooking stove, snorkels and the like, which were perfect! We returned the vehicle with him at the airport before our flight which was 100% smooth sailing! If we ever make our way back to Maui, we will definitely be in touch with Ed again!

It is one of the easiest tents to operate. Here is a short video from the manufacturer. Keep in mind this is for the smaller version, but they have the same concept. https://youtu.be/yIXkNRVc_9k
