The Great Outdoors

There are some beautiful state parks dotted along the edge of Lake Michigan. Grand Mere State Park is the closest to Berrien Springs and features a mile-long stretch of sand dunes by the lake, as well as over 700 acres of dense woodlands behind the dunes. This beach is perfect for taking a swim in Lake Michigan as well as topping up your suntan. If you're feeling lucky, bring along a metal detector and comb the beaches for lost treasures. The lake itself is ideal for watersports, including kayaking and fishing. There are also several hiking trails that lead by three ancient lakes situated behind the dunes, as well as through the park's forests.Another popular lakeside park RV campers at Shamrock Campground will love is Warren Dunes State Park. This large state park covers over 1,900 acres of sandy beaches and dunes along the river. Uniquely, the park features 260-foot-tall sand dunes, which are ideal for getting panoramic views of the park and lake. These dunes are also popular with hang gliders. The park features three miles of shoreline, which is excellent for swimming, boating, and fishing. If you'd rather stay dry, there are six miles of hiking trails to explore. Pets are allowed at this park, so bring your pup along for some much-needed exercise.Berrien Springs campers may also want to explore some of the state parks away from Lake Michigan. Kai-Haven Trail State Park is located near Kalamazoo and features over 30 miles of former railroad, which is a rugged limestone environment. This park is a popular spot for winter sports, and the railroad is great for snowmobiling, skiing, and more. There are 11 miles of trails here, which lead you along the railway, through quaint towns, and past historical sights. If you enjoy horseback riding, horses are also allowed along these trails.

Exploring the City

There are some lovely cities worth visiting during your motorhome rental vacation in southern Michigan. South Bend is located just across the state line in Indiana and is one of the biggest cities in the region. The Potawatomi Zoo is the second oldest zoo in Indiana and features over 400 animals from different continents. There are some rare and amazing critters on display at Potawatomi, including Amur tigers, emus, and giant anteaters. The zoo also does a meet and greet where you can interact with various farm animals.Another popular attraction in South Bend is the Snite Museum of Art. This university art museum is connected to the well-respected Notre Dame University and is considered one of the best in the country. There are over 29,000 pieces of art in its permanent collection from many different artistic disciplines. There are lots of impressive pieces of art on display here; however, one of the best reasons to visit is to see the museum's collection of Rembrandt etchings.Alternatively, you might want to visit a city in Michigan during your visit with the RV rental near Shamrock Park Campground.
