Silver Hills Campground is found in Mears, a town named for the Mears family, who donated land to the state for recreation areas and parks. Mears State Park is one of the many places you can take your camper rental while staying at Silver Hills Campground. The park features lavish scenery thanks to its position alongside Lake Michigan, with ample space to walk along the shore, go for a swim, fish, boat, and more. There are camping areas and hiking trails here too.Silver Lake State Park is also close to Silver Hills Campground and is situated on Silver Lake. Here you can also enjoy boating on the lake, going on a fishing excursion, picnicking by the water, or off-roading on the towering sand dunes that separate Silver Lake and Lake Michigan. Camping near Silver Lake is always a treat, and so is swimming off the shores of Lake Michigan.Another excellent park to visit nearby is Ludington State Park. This 5,000-acre park is comprised of several different ecosystems, with sprawling sand dunes, evergreen forests, raging rivers, artificial lakes, and four campgrounds. Historic lighthouses can be toured while visiting the park, and there is a large network of nature trails for biking or hiking too. After a long hike, you can grab a hot meal at the beach cafe.Manistee National Forest is a massive collection of over a half-million acres, just waiting for you to explore it. Epic sand dunes provide breathtaking views overlooking Lake Michigan, particularly at sunset, and towering mountains are popular ski and snowboard destinations in the wintertime. Hundreds of miles of dirt roads and nature trails, several campgrounds, lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, and a whole lot more await you when you book an RV in Oceana County and immerse yourself in the wilderness of Manistee National Forest.
Mears is a charming town close to Silver Hills Campground, but other than a few restaurants and shops, it isn’t the liveliest places to go sightseeing. For this, you can head to either Pentwater or Ludington with your Mears motorhome rental. Pentwater has historic places, trendy restaurants, cafes, vineyards, golf courses, and other neat features, but the Pentwater Historical Society Museum is its most informative and entertaining place to visit. Learn about Pentwater, Oceana County, and the native tribes of the area while perusing its exhibits, taking guided tours, seeing old photographs, observing artifacts, and much more. The Port of Ludington Maritime Museum is a historical institution that focuses on the maritime history of the area. The shipping and lumber industries played a huge role in the development of the area, so a lot of the museum’s displays talk about the ships that navigated the Great Lakes, the shipwrecks lost, and the old lighthouses that line the vast shores of Lake Michigan. If you are bringing your children along for the Mears camper rental vacation, the Sandcastles Children’s Museum in Ludington is a fantastic place to spend the afternoon. Youngsters can play in activity areas with others, learn about the world and the laws of physics with child-friendly science experiments, engage with hands-on displays, and experiment with the music studio on-site.
What type of RV should I choose?
Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.
You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.
Do the RVs have bathrooms?
Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.
How does check-in work?
Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
