Soo Locks Campground

Book an RV in Chippewa County, and you will be surrounded by fun activities for the whole family. The Soo Locks are one of the main draws in town. This is where one of the largest Great Lakes, Lake Superior, and the St. Mary's River meet. Due to the two separate waterways having differing water levels, the Locks regulate the height of the water. This allows the ships within it to meet the water level of the body of water they are entering. There is also a Visitor's Center that provides an observation platform on-site. The Historic US Weather Bureau Building highlights the history of weather forecasting for ship traffic on the nearby waterways. The infamous wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald, in the 1980s, is highlighted here. The River of History Museum showcases the natural and social history of the local area, from the ice age, through the height of fur trading, and into the modern-day. The Museum Ship Valley Camp details many of the large ships that frequent the local waters. Many shipwrecks that have occurred nearby are discussed, as well. There are several unique structures that are worth a visit in town. The Tower of History highlights the works of the ancient tribes that first lived in the area. It also offers a birds-eye view of the surrounding landscape. The Sault Ste Marie International Bridge crosses the river and grants access to Canada, though you would obviously need a passport to enter that county. Picturesque views of it are available from the Locks. Visitors can also tour the Point Iroquois Light Station found locally. It provides fine views of Lake Superior.
