Located about 60 miles from the city of St. Louis, Meramac State Park is easily accessible by renting an RV, and you’ll find a range of affordable RV rentals in Franklin County. The park extends into the neighboring counties of Washington and Crawford. Close to Meramec State Park are the cities of Rolla and Bourbon that you could include visiting as well.

Getting Outdoors

Considered one of Missouri’s hidden treasures for fishing, Meramec State Park is a delight for anglers. As one of the most diverse rivers to be found in the state, fish species found here in abundance include black bass, catfish, panfish, bluegill, crappie, and smallmouth bass. With miles of shoreline, fishing is enjoyable, and there are quite a few good spots to cast your fishing rod.

When you go RV camping at Meramec State Park, keep in mind that naturalist-led tours are the best way to explore the many caves. The most popular among the caves is the Fisher Cave, and a tour through the cave brings you face to face with low, narrow, streamside passageways that give way to massive rooms filled with calcite deposits. Check out the well-preserved bear claw marks, distinct cave wildlife, and a stunning range of calcite deposits that include massive columns and intricate helictites.

Swimming in Meramec River is fun. While there are no lifeguards or designated swimming areas, swimming close to the shoreline at your own risk is fine. Canoes, rafts, and kayaks are great for floating down the river, and floating also happens to be one of the most popular activities here.

Check out the visitor center in the park while you’re on your vacation. From park literature to exhibits, the visitor center offers an insight into Meramec State Park’s cultural, natural, and recreational resources. Don’t miss the massive aquarium, life-size riverbank diorama, and a collection of the river’s endangered mussels.
