Getting Outdoors

Weldon Spring Conservation Area is seen as somewhat as a haven for the keen fishermen and women of eastern Missouri. The area is peppered with small lakes, and the Missouri River runs close by. Both the river and the lake offer a myriad of angling opportunities. They are full of freshwater gamefish, with rarely a species overlooked. Weldon Spring Conservation Area campers can try their hand a catching largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, black bass, crappie, channel catfish, and many more.

Along with the world-class fishing, Weldon Spring Conservation Area is also a fine area for a spot of boating. As the Weldon Spring Conservation Area is home to two boat launching ramps, accessing the Missouri River with a boat is simple. Whether you wish to sail along the river with a pontoon boat or explore with a canoe or kayak, the Missouri River has it all. Those travel trailer camping without a boat of their own can always head to the All In Bait & Tackle just north of the area. Campers can rent fishing and pontoon boats here for a small price.

As well as the fantastic water-based recreation, Weldon Spring Conservation Area is home to a network of trails crisscrossing many acres. These trails tally up to over 29 and a half miles worth of hiking and cycling routes. Two of the trails, the Lewis and Clark routes are for hikers only, yet the Hamburg Trail and Lost Valley Trail are multi-use. These trails differ in both length and difficulty, meaning they are ideal for all hiking and cycling skill levels. The routes also create perfect opportunities to spot the Weldon Spring Conservation Area’s wildlife.

Camping at Weldon Springs Conservation Area

Venture a few miles south, and campers will come to Babler Memorial State Park, the ideal site for RV camping. Here campers can base themselves then travel the short distance to Weldon Spring Conservation Area.

Full 20, 30, 50 amp electrical, water, and sewage hookups are provided here, and facilities include a dump station, flushing toilets, a shower block, picnic tables, and a fire ring. Pets are welcomed on site but must be kept on a lead at all times.

Exploring the Area

Weldon Spring Conservation Area is only a thirty-minute drive from St Louis. Here you can visit one of the US’s most iconic landmarks, The Gateway Arch National Park, which is formally known as The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial.
