The park contains three natural areas that are noted for their high-quality ecosystems, and Big Sugar Creek, which winds its way through the woodland, is one of the finest undisturbed streams in northeastern Missouri. Getting Outdoors

Lake Lincoln, located in Cuivre River State Park, is often used for both fishing and swimming. There is a large public swimming beach which is often full of families, especially when the weather is nice, enjoying playing in the sand or taking a dip in the cool water. There is also a concrete boat launch nearby that provides easy access to the water. Anglers have a good chance of catching species such as largemouth bass, channel catfish, and bluegill, making it a popular place for state park RV camping.

Many trails wind their way through the undergrowth and open land, all of which have varying lengths and difficulty levels. Head to Frenchman's Bluff for stunning views out over the surrounding countryside, or walk through valleys thick with oak trees, keeping your eyes peeled for some varied wildlife that calls the park home. Traverse glades, head to the prairies, and admire the flood plain of Big Sugar Creek, there really is a lot to choose from, plus, many of the trails are also open to equestrians.

For those interested in learning more about the park and the wildlife when camping at Cuivre River State Park, lots of nature programs take place throughout the summer months in the campground amphitheater, which can be fascinating. Alternatively, take your pick of one of the many picnic sites scattered throughout the land and just observe for yourself, or use one of the two covered shelters if it is not nice enough to sit outside.

Camping at Cuivre River State Park

There are two state park RV campgrounds available within Cuivre River State Park that offers reservable basic, electric, and sewer, electric and water hookup sites. The sites are open throughout the year. However, showers and water are only available during the summer months. There is also an equestrian campsite, family campsites, and three organized group camps depending on your needs. Motorhome camping directly in the park will allow you to be the first to hit the trails in the morning and avoid the crowds.

For those that don't want to camp directly in Cuivre River State Park, there are several other nearby options. One is Bayview Campers Park. The campgrounds cover 23 acres and have 140 sites which are level and come with both water and electricity. Other amenities include a modern shower house, swimming pool, and three fishing lakes. There is also a playground to help keep the kids entertained when camping with an RV.

Exploring the Area

Take the children out for a day of fun and learning at Big Joel's Safari and Petting Zoo. The zoo allows you to get up close and personal with many different types of animals, with over 60 animal species, both big and small, calling the park their home. No visit to the park will be the same, as there are always newborn animals to discover, new exhibits, things to do and learn, and regular events held throughout the year.

Learn a little bit more about the history of Charles County at the historic Daniel Boone Home. These beautiful houses and surroundings represent life in the early 1800s, and a visit here will bring the legacy of Daniel Boone back to life. There are nearly 300 acres of the site to explore, which includes the historic Village complex, where you can visit an old general store, schoolhouse, grist mill, and more. Pay a visit and learn more about this fascinating county and the life of some of its most prominent residents.

Garden lovers will enjoy a visit to the celebrated Missouri Botanical Gardens. There is so much to see and do in the gardens, no matter the time of year, with many conservatories and covered areas for those rainy days. Some of the gardens include the Victorian District, International Gardens, and Formal Gardens, all of which are filled with a rich array of plant life.
