Lewis and Clark Caverns Campground

You don’t even have to leave the park to enjoy the great fresh air while taking part in a variety of outdoor activities when you book an RV in Jefferson County. In fact, you could spend most of your time exploring the limestone caves. These amazing caves are naturally air-conditioned all summer long and are full of stalactites, stalagmites, columns, and helictites. When you've finished touring the caves, there are plenty of places to hike, ride mountain bikes, go horseback riding, or fishing in the Jefferson River on the south side of MT 2. Lewis and Clark Caverns Campground is a great place to park your Whitehall motorhome rental as it's within driving distance of several fantastic sites. Adventurous Whitehall campers can take the two-hour drive to West Yellowstone, a gateway to Yellowstone National Park, one of the nation's most spectacular parks. Yellowstone National Park is home to Old Faithful, one of the most reliable geysers in the world. While there, be sure you stop to enjoy the spectacular scenery. You will be driving past any number of bison and other wildlife along the way; don't forget the camera. Head an hour's drive south of your campsite at Lewis and Clark Caverns Campground and take a peek at what Montana looked like back in the pioneering days. Virginia City and nearby Nevada City sit in Alder Gulch. The gulch is the site of the "richest placer gold strike" to be found in the Rockies. During the 18th and 19th centuries, miners pulled over $100 million from the waters and ground in the area. Today you can park your rental RV in the campground on the eastern end of Virginia City, go for a ride on the steam train, and even try your luck at panning for gold. This town looks like it was frozen in time and is a perfect representation of the Old West during the Victorian Era.
