We particularly love backing up the a campground on the beach and waking up to an amazing sunset in the morning. RecommendationsThere are multiple state, national, and private parks in the Houston area that offer great camping and activities.Our personal favorites include Huntsville State Park, Lake Livingston State Park, and Galveston Island State Park.The Houston area is also conveniently close to one of the largest national parks in Texas, the Sam Houston National Forest.The Sam Houston National Forest is 163,037 acres of forested public land located 50 miles north of downtown Houston. It contains the 128 mile Lone Star Hiking Trail, along with multiple recreation areas and three developed campgrounds, Cagle, Double Lake & Stubblefield. Other things to notePlease remember, no smoking permitted.
