Sea Rim State Park is a park located in Jefferson County, Texas. The park is in southeast Texas and runs along the shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico. This state park has forested areas, a beach, marshes, and wetlands. Essentially, Sea Rim State Park offers a full experience of nature in southeast Texas. There are several types of flora and fauna here that are difficult to find in other parts of the state.

The land that eventually became the park was originally purchased by Planet Oil and Mineral Corporation. Another tract of land was owned by Horizon Sales Corporation. The state bought the land in 1972 and opened the park in 1977. With its location being so close to the Gulf of Mexico, hurricanes and strong storms have eroded parts of the beach and closed certain sections of the highways.

Galveston is also about two hours away by RV. It might actually be faster to travel by water as Lake Charles, Louisiana is about 90 minutes away.

The ocean is a main attraction for those that visit Sea Rim State Park. Since the park has marshlands as well as ocean access, you will be able to find many different ways to enjoy the water. Fishing in the ocean allows fishermen to catch saltwater fish near the shore or out on a boat. Fishing in the marshlands provides opportunities for freshwater fish, saltwater fish, and a few species that prefer brackish water.

Sea Rim State Park offers three different types of camping for those who book a camper rental in southeast Texas. There is one cabin that is fully furnished and fully hooked to utilities.

Should you wish to stay in your RV, you will be able to choose one of fifteen different campsites. The campsites have 30-amp and 50-amp electrical hookups. They also have water hookups. Additionally, the campsites offer a picnic table, a tent pad, a grill, and a lantern post. The sites generally accommodate about eight people.

Lastly, you may wish to book an RV rentals in Sabine Pass so that you have the option of camping in a more rustic setting. For those visitors, Sea Rim State Park offers primitive campsites. There are about 75 of these sites. They do not have hookups or sewer dumping sites. They allow ground fires, and some of them might be closed from time to time due to ocean conditions.

There is also one floating primitive campsite. The campsite is a floating wooden campsite in the marsh. Ground fires or any fire that produces ash is not allowed. There are a few more regulations for the floating campsite to ensure that human activity does not damage the marsh. Obviously, visitors will need a boat, canoe, or kayak to reach the floating site.

Exploring the Area

Sea Rim State Park provides an excellent launching point for an exploration of the Gulf Coast. The museum features exhibits and information about the history, archaeology, and the ecology of the local grounds. There are also rotating exhibits that change several times each year.

Sabine Pass Battleground Historical Park is also in Port Arthur. The park commemorates the history of a US Civil War battle. The battle lasted only around one hour. A small group of Confederates defeated a group of Union soldiers to preserve Confederate access to a port. Buu Mon Buddhist Temple is the first Buddhist temple established in Beaumont, Texas and one of the few on the Gulf Coast. The temple moved after its founding to Port Arthur.
