The city of Katy is conveniently located 29 miles west of Houston, Texas. Its motto, “Small Town Charm with Big City Convenience”, perfectly sums up why it’s the ideal place to rent an RV, where you can experience big-city life without the drawbacks of driving within the metroplex. The Stephen F. Austin State Park is 20-minute drive west of Katy, situated upon the Brazos River. It’s a great place to relax, go fishing, biking, or to take advantage of one of the many hiking trails or nature tours in a picturesque setting that ranges from wetlands to forests. The park offers overnight RV camping, with 40 full hook-up sites and 20 partial, and there is also a store. A privately run 18-hole golf course is situated just next to the park, for those who have a competitive sporting streak.
The Brazos Bend State Park is located at Needville, less than an hour’s drive south of Katy. It is also on the Brazos River and has no less than six fishing lakes and 37 miles of trails. The park is home to an array of animal and marine life, including resident alligators. There is also a store, the George Observatory (which makes up part of the Houston Museum of Natural Science), and some partial hookup sites for RV camping on the grounds.
The whole Houston area is home to numerous hiking trails, such as the Memorial Park Red Trail, the Anthills Trail and the George Bush Hike and Bike Trail.
