The city of Katy is conveniently located 29 miles west of Houston, Texas. Its motto, “Small Town Charm with Big City Convenience”, perfectly sums up why it’s the ideal place to rent an RV, where you can experience big-city life without the drawbacks of driving within the metroplex. Katy is a great base for exploring the region; it is near both Interstate 10 and State Highway 99, with two state parks within an hour’s drive, offering RV camping, fishing, swimming and hiking.

Nearby, there’s the historic downtown district of Rosenberg, or take a couple hours’ trip to the popular San Antonio. Drive the Katy RV rental about two hours to the southeast and spend a few days on the Gulf coast in Galveston. A Katy RV rental by owner allows you to discover the true Texan way of life.

In Katy, you’ll have ample opportunity to enjoy hot Texan summers or mild winters, and there’s plenty of festivals and events happening in the area all year round. Katy boasts an excellent selection of malls, bars, restaurants and museums, and with Houston and the interstate so close by, a motorhome rental near Katy really offers you an outstanding vacation opportunity. So, make the most of it and book an RV in Katy.

The Great Outdoors

Although Katy is located in the suburbs of Houston, it has two great state parks right on its doorstep, so you can experience the best of the great outdoors without any inconveniences.

The Stephen F. Austin State Park is 20-minute drive west of Katy, situated upon the Brazos River. It’s a great place to relax, go fishing, biking, or to take advantage of one of the many hiking trails or nature tours in a picturesque setting that ranges from wetlands to forests. The park offers overnight RV camping, with 40 full hook-up sites and 20 partial, and there is also a store. A privately run 18-hole golf course is situated just next to the park, for those who have a competitive sporting streak.

The Brazos Bend State Park is located at Needville, less than an hour’s drive south of Katy. It is also on the Brazos River and has no less than six fishing lakes and 37 miles of trails. The park is home to an array of animal and marine life, including resident alligators. There is also a store, the George Observatory (which makes up part of the Houston Museum of Natural Science), and some partial hookup sites for RV camping on the grounds.

The whole Houston area is home to numerous hiking trails, such as the Memorial Park Red Trail, the Anthills Trail and the George Bush Hike and Bike Trail. Travel a bit farther in your Katy rental RV and there’s no shortage of Texas state parks and historic sites within comfortable distances, such as Galveston Island State Park, San Jacinto Battleground Historic State Site and Sheldon Lake State Park.

RV Parks

There’s a large number of nearby RV parks just a short distance from central Katy and Houston, so you’ll have plenty of choices when it comes to parking your Katy camper rental, without getting too far away from all of the great amenities and attractions.

Katy Lake RV Resort is in close proximity to Houston. Set on 18 acres, with a six-acre lake, Katy Lake RV Resort is only 10 minutes away from a wide variety of stores, restaurants and entertainment. The resort has a heated pool and hot tub, the lake for fishing, a pavilion and nature trails. Pets are welcome and there’s plenty of space for big rigs.

Houston West is another RV park in the area, located just 10 miles from Katy Mills Mall. Complete with pool, spa, two-acre fishing pond, TV lounge, kitchen and 24-hour laundry facilities, all sites feature level Texas limestone parking areas, Wi-Fi and picnic tables. The park is right off the freeway.

It’s worth noting that Katy is also home to a large camping supply store, located on the Katy Freeway. It’s open year-round for RV supplies, accessories and services, including a staffed RV wash, RV supplies, parking and repairs.

Exploring the City

There’s no shortage of things to see and do in Katy, making it an ideal location to rent an RV. Should you visit in October, be sure to check out the dates for the Katy Rice Festival, a nod to the city’s agricultural roots, when you can enjoy two days of continuous live entertainment, carnival rides and games, craft fairs and food booths. To find out more about Katy’s past, visit the Katy Heritage Museum with vintage farming equipment, pioneer artifacts and antiques.

Take a trip to the historic quarter and visit one of the breweries in town. You can take a tour of the premises and enjoy a visit to the tap room to sample the beers (or a wine or soft drink).

If you enjoy shopping, there’s no shortage of choices at Katy Mills, with over 175 stores. This climate-controlled mall combines high-fashion with an excellent variety of eateries from restaurants to grab-and-go convenience stands. Another outstanding option is LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch. Frequently Asked Questions

What are RV rentals?

Renting an RV lets you enjoy the flexibility of RV travel without all the costs and maintenance of ownership. With a rental, you can book the perfect rig for any trip just like you would a car or hotel. With Outdoorsy, you rent directly from the RV owner but get the backing of programs like roadside assistance, insurance, and stellar support from real, live people 24/7.

How much are average RV rentals?

On average, you can expect to pay between $75 and $150 per night to rent most small trailers and campervans. Larger trailers and motorhomes could cost $100 to $250 per night. Renting an RV for a longer time can be even more affordable–a week or month-long rental could average out to less than $60 per day.

Are there RV rentals with unlimited mileage?

Yes! Each RV owner can choose whether to offer unlimited miles on their vehicles. You’ll be able to see if unlimited mileage is an option on any listing you check out. If unlimited miles are not available, you’ll be able to see what is included with the base rate and what extra miles will cost.

Are RV rentals pet-friendly?

Many RV owners allow pets in their rentals. Be sure to check the listing to see if it’s an option for the rig you have your eye on. You’ll be able to see if there is an extra deposit or fee for pets before you request a booking.

Do RV rentals offer delivery?

Having an RV delivered to your home or destination is a great way to simplify your trip. Many RV owners offer delivery and setup services, usually for an extra fee or within a certain distance of their location. Each listing shows whether or not delivery is an option.

Are there RV rentals near me?

RV rentals are available all over the country! Whether you want to pick up an RV near home to set out an epic road trip or if you want to have one ready at your destination, you can search by location for any type of rig.

RV rental vs buying?

Renting an RV is an affordable way to get all the benefits of RV travel without the maintenance and overhead of ownership. It’s also a great way to try out the lifestyle and different types of rigs before you take the plunge and buy your own. Already own an RV? Consider renting yours out to bring in some extra income.

How many people can sleep in an RV?

Small travel trailers and campervans can usually sleep 2-4 people comfortably. Mid-size trailers and motorhomes usually sleep 4-8. Bigger rigs often sleep 6-10, some even 12!

Why choose Outdoorsy vs Craigslist or Airbnb?

Security, for one. Outdoorsy helps protect RV owners and renters with excellent support and insurance options, and a secure platform for listings, communication, and payments. There are plenty of other reasons though, like roadside assistance, detailed listings, and a wide variety of RVs to choose from.
