Situated in the far north of New York State, Malone is the town and county seat of Franklin County. It was established in 1805 and originally named “Harison" after its founder, Richard Harison, before being changed to “Ezraville” and eventually “Malone” in 1812. It was sacked by British troops during the War of 1812 before the arrival of the Ogdensburg and Champlain Railroad in 1850 brought a flood of workers to the town and stimulated the dairy industry.
