Tupper Lake has some popular outdoor attractions such as the Wild Center museum, where you'll find a rope trail that spans throughout the treetops, a spider's web built for humans, and guided canoe trips. Exploring the Area

Saranac Lake is a welcoming village with an upbeat vibe and a downtown area that pulsates both indoors and out. You'll find the usual assortment of attractions such as museums and shopping venues, but it's the energy that will draw you in. In the summer, you can enjoy hiking and mountain biking on nearby trails; in winter, those same trails open up for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Dancing to live music continues year-round, but if you're looking for something to satisfy your intellectual curiosity, you can arrange for a tour of Bartok Cabin, a historic landmark that was home to the composer Bela Bartok. Several of Saranac Lake's museums focus on local artistic activities, and another is dedicated to American author Robert Louis Stevenson.

Paul Smiths is a small hamlet with one landmark, Northbrook Lodge, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. If you venture here, you'll want to spend some time wandering around Paul Smith's College VIC, which has lovely, well-maintained buildings and cultivated grounds; the property extends farther out to allow hiking in marshes and other areas, and into the backcountry. The college has concerts and other performances on occasion. The hamlet has several eateries where you can grab a meal, and there are more options a short distance away. There are cafes and delis, pub restaurants, bistros, and more.
