Chatuge Lake is a large lake south of town that is a popular recreation destination for vacationers. There are a few nice parks on the shores of the lake, like Clay County Park. Lake Chatuge Recreation Area is also found on the lake, over on the Georgia side of the border, however. Guests can swim, fish, boat, go tubing or even jet skiing in the waters of the lake, and there is a boat launch for those with their own watercraft. There is a nice shaded campground along the water’s edge for you to stay in your Hayesville camper rental overnight.

City Sightseeing

Despite its small physical size and population, Hayesville is a county seat for Clay County and possesses lots of wonderful historic buildings. There is also a myriad of vineyards, wine tasting rooms, and antique shops in this small country town. Clay County Historical Society runs several historic attractions and relies on volunteers to keep records to preserve the past. One of these institutions is the Old Jail Museum, which is housed in the old jailhouse built in 1912. Although it is referred to as the Old Jail Museum, it features many different exhibits regarding the Cherokee native people, the African American people of Clay County, and much more.

Drives great, very comfortable, and is stocked with the basics! Fit my family of 4 comfortably. Just a note, if you’re planning to use the pop up, to bring bedding or sleeping bags. We would absolutely rent this camper again!

Great experience! He showed up on time, was friendly and easy to work with. We accidentally damaged an outdoor wok lid during the trip, and he didn’t even charge us extra for it. Honest, fair, and highly recommended!
