Those motorhome camping without their own boats can head to any of High Rock Lake’s many marinas and rent a range of water-going vessels. Although close to many of North Carolina’s big cities, High Rock Lake is surrounded by many green hills and picturesque landscapes. Full hookups are provided here, including 20, 30, 50 amp electric, water, and sewer. Facilities include a dump station, laundrette, flushing toilets, playground, and swimming pool. There also many pull-thru sites at ‘High Rock Lake Marina & Campground,’ meaning all sizes of rigs are welcomed here.

‘Holly Bluff Family Campground’ is on the southern shore of High Rock Lake and offers campers an ideal spot for RV camping. Full hookups are again provided here, including electrics, water, and sewage. Facilities include a dump station, flushing toilets, an RV storage unit, and an on-site swimming pool. Pets are more than welcome on this site but must be kept on a leash at all times.

Exploring the Area

The city of Greensboro is only a short drive north from High Rock Lake and is where campers can explore a range of entertaining and educating sights. A trip to the ‘Guilford Courthouse National Military Park is a must when in the city of Greensboro. This park marks the spot where the battle of Guildford Courthouse took place in 1781, one of the most iconic and decisive battles of the Revolutionary War. Alongside its historical significance, the park is also a picturesque and idyllic place to spend a few hours away from the hecticness of the city.

Another fun way to spend a day in the city of Greensboro is the ‘Greensboro Science Center.’ This museum encompasses both a science museum and a zoological park under one roof. This is the perfect day out for those who are interested in animals and the science behind them. The center is home to animals such as the rare red panda, tigers, white-nosed coati, meerkats, and black howler monkeys. The museum section of the center includes exhibitions and ‘touch labs’ that include live snakes and other reptiles.

Families with young children should visit the ‘Discovery Place’ in the nearby city of Charlotte. This children’s museum offers an environment where children can be entertained and educated at the same time. Through a ‘learn through play’ system, children can interact in the various exhibitions and come away with a better understanding of certain academic subjects. Exhibitions include the ‘I can build,’ where children interact with a construction exhibition, getting hands with the display. Or the ‘Learning Garden,’ which teaches children about all things that grow, including plants and flowers.
