There are many outdoor activities visitors can enjoy while at Beachside State Recreation Site. One is hiking. This recreation site is filled with 30 miles of pathways hikers can explore. Many of these trails will take you to the beach and on top of cliffs giving you panoramic views of the ocean. During the spring and fall, the cliffs provide you with the perfect viewpoint for watching whales migrating to their summer and winter homes. In addition to this, some trails will take you to a few historic lighthouses situated nearby.

You could also go fishing. Fishers can stand along the shoreline and cast their reel in search of trout, tuna, and halibut. Keep in mind you do need an Oregon fishing license to fish here. You should also keep a close eye on the tide that can quickly rush in, leaving you stranded.

In Lincoln City, visitors are able to stop by the Connie Hansen Garden Conservancy. Covering one-acre, the conservancy is filled with wildflowers and rhododendrons. Guests can sign up for a guided tour of the grounds where they’ll learn more about the history of the gardens and how they are maintained. There is also a small gift shop filled with gardening items, handmade lotions, and books.

Load up the family and take a two-hour drive to Eugene to check out the Museum of Natural and Cultural History. Situated on the grounds of the University of Oregon, this museum informs visitors of the history and culture of the local area. Inside, you’ll discover a handful of exhibits that are filled with artifacts that range from old wagon wheels to pottery. In addition to this, there is folk art on display. After touring the interior of the museum, step outside into its courtyard where you’ll find hundreds of native plants in bloom.

In Salem, don't forget to stop by the Deepwood Museum and Gardens. This structure was originally built in the late 1800s and was the home of Dr. Luke Port before being converted into a museum. While here, visitors can learn more about its former inhabitants and the man who built this intriguing home. There are also quite a few exhibits inside that are filled with antiques and clothing from the 1940s-60s. Guests can also tour the museum’s formal gardens that are filled with boxwoods and dogwoods.

There are a handful of gas stations situated near Beachside State Recreation Site. You’ll also find a few restaurants nearby, most of which serve fresh seafood. Other culinary delights that might be of interest to try while here are apples, hazelnuts, and clam chowder.
