It's easy to find something to explore in the great outdoors while camping near Bend, widely considered to be the outdoor recreation center of the state. Within an hour's drive of the city, there are dozens of amazing parks to see and a few national forests as well. The Cove Palisades State Park is worth visiting while you're here. The park is home to Lake Billy Chinook, a breathtaking body of water with exquisite rock faces and formations lining its edges. Swimming, fishing, boating, and kayaking are possible while visiting The Cove Palisades State Park, and there are even two campgrounds to accommodate you and your RV rental overnight. Boat rentals, ancient petroglyphs, and other exciting activities await at this popular state park. Smith Rock State Park is another place you can add to your itinerary, found in the high desert of Oregon. Sheer basalt cliffs provide rock climbers and boulderers plenty of challenges to test their mettle, ranging from beginner-friendly routes to expert rock faces. Hiking and camping are possible too at Smith Rock State Park. Tumalo State Park is south of Bend. It is an idyllic place with magnificent wildlife and great views of the Deschutes River that passes through the area. The park is popular with campers and hikers, but you can also do some mountain biking, swimming, kayaking, and fishing in the Deschutes River. Don't miss a visit to Crater Lake National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most impressive national parks in the world. The park contains the ruins of ancient Mount Mazama, which exploded millions of years ago, leaving behind a massive crater that now contains the park’s namesake. Guests may hike, bike, or drive around the rim of this massive lake, thought to be one of the clearest and deepest lakes in North America. The waters are frigid, but swimming and boating are possible if you make your way down the winding trails and steep slopes to the edges of Crater Lake. Camping is also an option at one of the premier facilities provided by this amazing park.
