The beautiful Clear Creek State Park located in Jefferson County in the state of Pennsylvania is a wilderness oasis for outdoor enthusiasts. Located in the townships of Heath and Barnett, the Clear Creek State Park is in the borough of Brookville and stands at the confluence of the Clear Creek and Clarion River.

Occupying one of the most scenic parts of the Clarion Valley, the park covers over 1600 acres of forested area. Historically, the park has been open to the public since the Great Depression, with many of the recreational facilities being constructed around that time, and still in use today. The river and the excellent hiking trails are a major attraction for Clear Creek State Park campers.

The Great Outdoors

Clear Creek State Park offers campers a wide range of recreational activities, and the perfect opportunity for some much-needed respite in the midst of the scenic outdoors. Hiking is one of the most popular activities at the state park, with over 25 miles of hiking trails to explore. Two popular trails in the park that everyone should try are the River Trail that moves along the shores of the Clarion River and covers less than a mile. For a longer hike, consider including the Irish Rock Trail, Boundary Trail, and the Hunter Trail. The other popular trail to explore is the Clear Creek Trail Loop that follows the edges of the creek, offering scenic views of the stream and the forests around the area. For a hike in more hilly terrain, try the Sawmill and Trudy Trail that covers the forested hillsides of the park.

On your RV rental vacation to Clear Creek State Park, consider including some hunting, since it’s common in designated areas and at specific times in the year. White-tailed deer, squirrels, black bear, and turkey are the easily found hunting game in the area. The neighboring Kitanning Forest also offers good hunting options. Visitors are expected to follow the rules and regulations of the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Canoeing in the Clarion River is something worth trying when camping at Clear Creek State Park. Canoeing is especially good during the spring and fall seasons, and a popular canoeing trip is the four and a half hour expedition that covers about 10 miles from Clear Creek to Cook Forest State Park.

If you plan to do some RV camping in Clear Creek State Park, look no further. The park is equipped with over 50 camping sites with picnic tables and fire rings. Many of the campsites have electric hookups, with showers, flush toilets and a dump station available as well. There is limited cell phone connectivity. During severe weather conditions, the park may close access to campsites, so call ahead in case you happen to visit during weather irregularities. Also, you should make a reservation before heading to the state park, in case you do plan on camping inside the park. The RV campsites are child-friendly, so bring your kids along to make use of the beautiful surroundings. Pets are permitted as well for a fee and in specific areas only. In addition to the outdoor recreation available at the state park, there is also a nine-hole disc golf course and a concrete basketball court available.

In the neighboring Cook Forest is the White Haven’s Campground, with over 100 sites available for parking your rental motorhome close to Clear Creek State Park. For those of you keen on getting to know the history of the area, stop by at the Jefferson County History Center that houses over 10 exhibit areas a research room, library, and a history center shop.

The town is home to the famous Blackbird Distillery, the only distillery in the country that takes you on a journey of moonshine from grain to bottle.

Walk through the quaint Victorian Main Street lined with interesting shops, cafes and restaurants churning out a range of cuisines for visitors

In the town of Sigel, visit the Jesses Dream Park, a cool place to visit, especially with your kids. The indoor dark maze has loads of laser strobe and dazzling lights accompanied by eerie sounds and music.
