Presque Isle State Park is located in the northern section of Pennsylvania and covers over 3,112 acres. The state park rests on a peninsula in Lake Erie, providing stunning coastal views. The area has a rich history and was once where many Native American tribes lived. Numerous forts were also built on the grounds during the War of 1812.
Today, Presque Isle State Park is a popular spot for fishing and hiking. This state park has also been named an important birding location in the state as it is home to over 320 species. The climate tends to be somewhat chilly, although temperatures can be very comfortable during the spring and fall.
You’ll find plenty of things to do outdoors while at Presque Isle State Park. Fishing is one of those things to try out. Fishers will find numerous fishing spots around the park thanks to its location next to Lake Erie. Some species you’ll discover here include perch, trout, bass, steelhead, and walleye. There are also a few other smaller fishing areas within the park to try out, such as Presque Isle Bay, which contains large amounts of bass, perch, and panfish. Boats can be taken out on Lake Erie, or fishers can grab their rod and fish along the shoreline.
Park-goers can also go hiking. There are quite a few trails winding around the grounds that give you stunning views of the surrounding landscape. One is the B-Trail, which is less than half-a-mile long and will take you through a thick pine forest. There’s also the Sidewalk Trail. This pathway stretches over one mile and will take you by the Presque Isle Lighthouse.

Due to the park being one of the top birdwatching areas in Pennsylvania, Presque Isle State Park is a birdwatcher's paradise. A few species you’ll find here include coots, bitterns, wrens, and terns. During the winter, many birds stop by the park during their migration - something that can be viewed from various observation platforms.
