Lark- Ford Transit Connect - fuel-efficient!

The BossLady, our unique 2011 Sprinter van conversion, allows you to choose your adventure in style and comfort. She has everything you need to experience van life in any season, with the ability to operate on solar power or shore power allowing maximum independence as you roam around the Northwest.
Imagine waking up at the trailhead after a great nights sleep on the comfy memory foam mattress, eating a hot breakfast in the cozy galley kitchen, then stepping outside to hit the trail. Don't be afraid to get dirty while on your adventures, as you can clean off in the outdoor heated shower when you return. Finish the day with a cold beer (courtesy of the spacious fridge/freezer) and a warm blanket while relaxing around a campfire.
The BossLady has taken our renters to some of the best spots in the Pacific Northwest - the Columbia River Gorge, central Oregon and Crater Lake National Park, Oregon's amazing coastline, the Olympic Peninsula, and even northern California. She knows the routes well. She is a true joy to drive with a powerful diesel engine and tight turning radius. Most renters state that operating the BossLady feels like driving a car.
Take your bikes, your surf toys and your favorite companion! Plenty of space for clothing, food and your pooch. The van is thoughtfully designed for efficient use of the space, allowing you to maximize your experience.
200 miles per day included in rental (more mileage than most rentals). With an average of 20-25 miles per gallon, you can explore for less money. The diesel heater keeps you toasty warm after a day in the snow.
Within the van you'll find a toilet, fridge/freezer, gas stove, heater, sink, and table. The BossLady is outfitted with cooking and dining items, linens, camp chairs, and cozy blankets so you are ready to roll with minimal fuss.
There's undercarriage storage for snowboards, skis, surfboards, additional camping gear, and more. A hitch-mounted bike rack is also available. The van comes equipped with all terrain tires to help handle snowy or gravel roads. Stay off the grid with full interior power for several days. The BossLady is ready for any adventure you have in mind and more.
There's a 220 amp hour house battery charged by two solar panels and the alternator of the vehicle. There's also a battery isolator that will always keep your phone charged and the lights on without killing the vehicle battery. Each rental will start with a full charge that will normally last for at least 3-5 days depending on sun, miles driven, and electricity use. There is a diesel heater that works wonderfully - no need to have the van running. The heater control panel is next to the bed so you can warm up the van before getting up (essential on cold winter mornings!). There is also a roof fan for ventilation.
In the cabin, you'll find a kitchen including a sink, two burner stove top, French press coffee maker, and fridge/freezer. The van comes ready for cooking with two pans, two pots, plates, bowls, cups, utensils, wine opener, can opener, knives, strainer, and cutting board. Each rental will come with 5 gallons of drinkable water available from the sink, and 10 gallons in the undercarriage that can be used for the outdoor shower or be moved to the cabin for additional water for the sink. There's also a portable toilet in the cabin (stored in the cabinet under the bench) and an outdoor heated shower accessible through the back doors of the van. Two bath towels and kitchen hand towels are provided.
There's sleeping room for 2 people on the 6 inch memory foam Serta full sized bed. There are magnetic window covers to be used for privacy at night.
Renters have taken the BossLady to many beautiful locations, mainly in in Oregon and Washington, but as far away as San Francisco, CA! A favorite loop for renters is to head east toward Mt. Hood/Hood River, then south to Crater Lake National Park, west to the Oregon coast, then north back to Portland. That said, we'd encourage you to explore some less travelled routes and find your own unique experience. Possibilities include the Elkhorn Range and Eagle Cap wilderness in NE Oregon, the Painted Hills/Fossil/John Day in Central Oregon, or (for a true wilderness experience) the Alvord Desert, Malheur Wildlife Reserve and Steens Mountains in desolate SE Oregon. We love to see where the BossLady ends up!
As owners, we've taken the BossLady on week-long ski safaris in Washington and Idaho, explored the Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, communed with forest giants in northern California's Redwood region, and had many memorable weekend trips in Oregon and Washington.
Absolutely no smoking (or leaving butts) in the van!
Please do not cook bacon or fish (or anything else that is too smelly/messy) in the van.
The toilet is great for middle-of-the-night bathroom trips, but since it has limited capacity we'd recommend using campground/public toilets if they are available. Longer trips and/or prolific use may result in needing to empty the toilet more frequently.
While the BossLady can handle rugged terrain and snowy conditions, please note that she does NOT have 4-wheel drive. Wherever you take her, you are responsible for getting the BossLady out again, so please consider your boondocking choices wisely. For your own safety (and the safety of the van), driving/parking on beaches/sand dunes is NOT allowed.
Pets - we strongly recommend that you do not leave your pet unattended in the van. If you do need to leave your pet unattended, it must be crated to prevent accidents/damage (soft crates are great for this).
Per Outdoorsy policy, do not attempt to climb on the roof of the van.
