Discover Edgar Evins State Park

Getting Outdoors

One of the biggest attractions of Edgar Evins State Park is, of course, Center Hill Lake. Cool off in the water during the scorching summer days or try catching trout, walleye, and crappie. To do some fishing, however, a valid fishing license is required. Fortunately, if you don't have one, you can buy one at the marina, along with all the fishing supplies you might need.

Center Hill Lake also provides a great opportunity for some serene boating as well. Whether you bring your own boat or rent one, you'll have a great time exploring this mesmerizing lake and its secrets. Just a heads-up: rental boat options include houseboats, pontoons, bass boats, and jet skis.

Aside from exploring the lake from the coziness of your boat, you can explore the wonders of the park on foot, too. The park features nearly 12 miles of exciting hiking trails, some of which are easy and smooth while others are a bit more challenging. Trails such as the two-and-a-half-mile Millennium Loop Trail and the five-and-a-half-mile Merritt Ridge Loop Trail fall into the more challenging group and will require you to register before exploring.

Hiking along the trails will also provide you with a unique opportunity to observe the local wildlife. This park is home to more than 150 bird species and some interesting flora species, too. Expect to see avian predators like bald eagles, owls, and ospreys, but also rare songbirds like the cerulean warbler. In terms of plants, you're likely to spot basswood, tulip tree, and sugar maple. To get the best possible view, don't forget your binoculars and visit the park's observation tower. If that isn't enough, you can also visit the butterfly pavilions and see a wide variety of butterfly species that inhabit this area.
