Explore the City
The city of Elgin has more culture and history to discover than you might have expected, however, the city was initially settled in because of floods in McDade. The plans for the new Central Texas Railroad were diverted and a stop was constructed between Bastrop and Webberville. The train stop, originally named Glasscock, was opened in 1871 and was renamed Elgin one year later in honor of the railroad's land commissioner. Today you can learn more about the city by visiting the Elgin Depot Museum in the Historic Downtown. The museum hosts an extensive collection of artifacts from Elgin’s past including black and white community photographs and an old ticket office.

The whole trip was seamless due to our hosts, Allix and Jon. They were easily reachable by text/call if any issues, and the RV was maintained so well- you can tell that they truly care. As first time RV-ers, Allix gave us a thorough introduction to the RV. They had everything you could possibly need to maintain the RV, including gloves, leveling blocks (not needed because of auto-leveling), dashboard shade, and tons of other "just-in-case" items that we didn't use. Pick up and drop off was easy, and we were so grateful for the opportunity.
