Getting Outdoors

Fishing is one of the main activities at Duck Fork Reservoir, and it is regularly stocked with tiger trout and Colorado River cutthroat trout. There is a daily bag limit of two tiger trout. Fishing is allowed from both the shore and on the lake, but only in canoes or kayaks. Swimming is allowed in the reservoir, but the water temperature is likely to put off all but the hardiest, as, at an altitude of over 9,000 feet, the water never gets very warm.

Camping at Duck Fork Reservoir

There are no camping facilities at Duck Fork Reservoir, but just a few miles south at Ferron Reservoir, there is a campground. As with many state park campgrounds, this is very basic with simple vault toilets and drinking water being the full extent of the facilities. Closer to the forest access point near Mayfield is the Twin Lake Campground. Again, it is a very basic campground that doesn’t even have drinking water supplies, so make sure you bring everything you need for your stay. There are vault toilets, and fire rings at each campsite. The advantage of using these sites when camping with an RV is that you get to experience the real wilderness, but it’s not for everyone!

Exploring the Area

Mayfield to the west of Duck Fork Reservoir is one of the easiest access points to the national forest and also offers the facilities you need to stock before camping with an RV. You’ll find a gas station, several stores, and some small restaurants and cafes.
