Scofield State Park is situated in the Manti-La Sal Mountains of Utah, on the northern edge of the Wasatch Plateau. Ideal for a motorhome camping trip, Scofield State Park is just over 60 miles from the city of Provo. The park is at an elevation of 7600 feet above sea level, making it Utah’s highest-elevation park. Visitors flock here in the summer and winter months to make the most of a wide range of outdoor recreation. Located on the outskirts of the town of Scofield, it’s about 34 miles from Price and 56 miles from Huntington. Renting an RV is a convenient way of getting around the area, and you’ll find plenty of affordable RV rentals in Carbon County.

Scofield State Park’s primary attraction is the 2,815-acre Scofield Reservoir. As one of Utah’s top fisheries, it’s sought-after by anglers. Fishing, boating, hiking, and swimming are a few of the main draws at Scofield State Park, and camping with an RV is a great way to soak in the pristine Alpine surroundings coupled with the vast expanses of Scofield Reservoir.

Getting Outdoors

Camping at Scofield State Park is a delight for anglers. The mighty Scofield Reservoir is known for being a fantastic shore fishery in addition to offering excellent boat fishing. With healthy populations of rainbow and tiger trout, cutthroat trout, redside shiner, and mountain sucker, the reservoir is ideal for year-round fishing. Ice fishing for rainbow and cutthroat trout is a common sight in the winter months.

When you go RV camping at Scofield State Park, don’t forget to carry your watercraft. Summer months see lots of boaters with their watercraft out on the reservoir. Canoes, kayaks, speedboats, water skis, and jet skis are a common sight. If you’d rather go swimming, there are a few sandy beaches at different points around the lake, providing swimmers easy access to Scofield Reservoir.

Winter months attract several snowmobilers and cross-country skiers. The spectacular Manti-La Sal Mountains provide the perfect terrain for winter adventure sports.

ATV, off-highway vehicle riding, and mountain biking are possible in the Spanish Fork-Scofield Recreation Area that lies to the west side of the Scofield Reservoir. Two popular roads are Little Bear Trail and Fish Creek Ridge that are frequented by bikers. To the eastern side of Scofield State Park lies the Energy Loop Scenic Byway; this loop is perfect for long-distance road biking.

Exploring the Area

Once you’ve made the most of your time at Scofield State Park, consider a trip to the city of Provo during your RV rental vacation. Just an hour’s drive from the park, it's worth checking out. Like a lot of places in Utah, Provo is also known for its natural beauty. Also, the city has a thriving art and music culture, and is even considered one of the best places to live in the country! So why not check it out and see for yourself?

Drive to the Bridal Veil Falls; a 600-foot high waterfall tucked away in the southern end of Provo Canyon. The falls can be accessed by car, but if you want nice views, make your way to the Bridal Veil Falls State Park. The park has a scenic walkway that passes right in front of the falls.

While you’re in the area, you might as well check out Provo Canyon; it’s known for an array of fantastic outdoor adventure activities, including hiking, rock climbing, and mountain biking. If you just want to drive through, then head on to the Provo Canyon Scenic Drive route that takes you from Provo right through to the picturesque Heber Valley.

Get to know the culture of the area with a visit to the Museum of Peoples and Cultures. Housed in the Brigham Young University, the museum has exhibits showcasing the historical, anthropological, ethnographic, and archaeological footprints of the past. There’s a Museum of Art in the same university with ten galleries that exhibit art from across the state.

Provo has a great food scene with plenty of local food joints, fine dining restaurants, bars, pubs, bakeries, and fast food chains spread across the city. Local favorites like pastrami burgers, Utah scones, funeral potatoes, and Jello are what you should be trying when in Provo.
