Kamas, Utah is located on the outskirts of the Uinta Wasatch Cache National Forest, less than 50 miles east of Salt Lake City, the nearest large city. The town is named after camas, a favorite food of the local American Indian tribe that first settled the area. The town's claim to fame is that gold from a mine in the local area was used to help build the Mormon temple in Salt Lake City.
