Half Moon Pond State Park is located in the tranquil forests of Vermont, not far from the New York border and Lake George. It is a 90-minute drive from Burlington, which is Vermont's largest city. It is also a two-hour drive from Albany, New York. The park is a popular place for RV camping and tent camping. The tranquil atmosphere makes it an ideal place to escape city life when you rent an RV near Fair Haven.
Half Moon Pond State Park has an interpreter on-site to help you make the most of your time at the park and learn more about the area. Planned activities such as guided hikes, water activities, and arts and crafts projects are offered, all of which are family-friendly. There are lots of fun outdoor activities to explore when you camp in an RV at Half Moon Pond State Park. One of the most popular activities here is hiking. Trails are available for every skill level, with a vast network that winds through the area's hilly forests and small ponds. There are several short hikes in the trail network that are suitable for children or beginner hikers. However, if you're looking for more of a challenge, there are several longer hikes that will take you to waterfalls or scenic viewpoints. Half Moon Pond has excellent fishing, with largemouth bass, yellow perch, and panfish. You can fish from the shore or from a boat. There are many other lakes in this area that have excellent fishing opportunities too, including Lake Bomoseen, Glen Lake, and Lake Hortonia.
There are 52 campsites at Half Moon Pond State Park that support tents or RVs. Many of the campsites are located right on the water, with beautiful views and a tranquil environment. You'll also be able to access hiking trails directly from your campsite. There is a play area for those traveling with children. Pets are also allowed throughout the park.
Restrooms with flush toilets are on-site, as well as coin-operated showers and an RV dump station. Five cabins and a cottage are available for rent within the park. The cottage has a private boat dock and further amenities. A boat launch on the east side of the pond offers easy access to the water.
There's a lot to do when you go motorhome camping in southern Vermont. The closest gas station and grocery store are south of the campground near the New York border. This will be the most convenient place to stock up on food and supplies before heading to the campsites at Half Moon Pond State Park.
The nearest large town to the campground is Rutland. The city is very charming and is home to many interesting historical sites and cultural attractions. Between the campground and Rutland is the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site, which marks the location of the only Revolutionary War battle fought entirely in Vermont. Rutland is also home to the historic Lincoln family estate as well as Wilson Castle. Those who enjoy museums may also want to hit the road to visit the Chaffee Art Center in Rutland, the Montshire Museum of Science in Norwich, and the American Precision Museum in Windsor.
