Green Mountain National Forest is located in southwest Vermont. There are a few small towns surrounding it, such as Wardsboro and Manchester. The nearest larger town is Bennington, found around 30 miles to the southwest, while the nearest large city is Albany, NY, which is around 50 miles to the southwest.

Greendale Campground and Hapgood Pond Recreation Area are two options found nearby. Both are open during the summer season.

Bald Mountain Campground is in Townshend. Bathrooms, showers, a laundry room, and an on-site store are all available here. The camp is open May through Columbus Day Weekend. As there are so many fun things to do near here, many people enjoy RV camping in the Green Mountain National Forest, so it shouldn't be hard to acquire any services you may be needing.

Exploring the Area

This was the family home of the only child of President Lincoln who survived into adulthood. The home, the surrounding gardens, and farm buildings are all available to tour. There are several museums available to explore in Rutland. The Norman Rockwell Museum highlights the history of the artist's life and works. Many of his paintings are on display here. Children will enjoy themselves at the Wonderfeet Kids Museum. This locale features hands-on exhibits that entertain children and help them learn about the world around them.

There are several local farms that are open to visitors. The Hathaway Farm is in Rutland. It offers events throughout the year, such as a corn maze and hayride during the fall. The daily workings of the farm can be observed, and some animals are available for petting or feeding. If you get lucky, you may even get to see a newborn calf! The Wheeler Farm is in Wallingford. The farm specializes in local cheeses and maple syrup. Products are available for sampling and purchase.
