Named for a town on the Rhine River in Germany, Bingen, Washington is a tiny hamlet occupying space on the northern banks of the Columbia River. Bingen was first founded and named by a German immigrant named P.J. Suksdorf in 1892 and later incorporated in 1924.

The idyllic hamlet is carved into the Columbia River Gorge, overlooking the mighty river and all the spectacular scenery that comes with it. Peace, quiet, and an inviting atmosphere are part of the appeal of Bingen, as are its scenic drives.

Between the surrounding national forests, friendly climate, and proximity to Portland, Oregon, you can book an RV in Bingen to all but ensure a dream vacation in the gorgeous lands of southern Washington.

The Great Outdoors

The sublime Columbia River Gorge is one of the most captivating parts of the Pacific Northwest, with epic views and magical nature reserves located throughout. When you pick up your Bingen camper rental, there are a number of suitable spots to venture off to if you hunger for some outdoor recreation and relaxation. The gorge itself is a fertile paradise with steep canyon walls on either side of the Columbia River. The river valley has supported human life for over 13,000 years. Both the Oregon and Washington sides of the gorge are equally beautiful with their own breathtaking lookouts, and cascading waterfalls.

Wygant State Park can be found on the Oregon side of the Columbia River, no more than half an hour's drive from town in your Bingen camper rental. You can do tons of hiking at this amazing little park, enjoying more splendid views from the top of ridges overlooking the Columbia River. This largely undeveloped park lacks camping facilities, but its fantastic, rugged, densely-wooded forest is great for reconnecting with nature.

Beacon Rock State Park is back on the Washington side of the river, over towards the cities of Portland and Vancouver, and well worth a visit when you rent an RV in Bingen. The park takes its name from Beacon Rock, a massive, basalt rock formation jutting out the side of a river, over 800 feet tall. The rock was named by the Lewis and Clark Expedition and is thought to be one of the largest freestanding rock monoliths in the northern hemisphere. Beacon Rock is great for rock climbing, with technically challenging routes for skillful climbers. There are also trails to hike, bike, and ride horses on, and campgrounds where you can park your Bingen RV rental by owner.

The majestic Mount Hood is one of the Pacific Northwest’s most legendary landmarks, found over in Oregon in the heart of Mount Hood National Forest. This incredible wilderness area contains the highest point in all of Oregon and one of the largest and most prominent stratovolcanoes in the country. There are eight distinct wilderness areas in the forest, and over 150 different recreation areas. You can try to climb to Mount Hood’s peak, but it is no easy feat.
