The Great Outdoors

Washington is often referred to as a place of divine beauty, with incredible evergreen forests and magnificent mountains. Even the San Juan Islands in the Puget Sound are each little hidden paradises existing in their own world. Lime Kiln Point State Park is a tiny nature refuge on the far side of the island from Friday Harbor, but easy to drive to when you rent an RV in town. The park is small compared to most other state parks but is one of the very best places on the planet to observe pods of wild orca whales in nature. You can also scour the shores for seashells, have a picnic on the coast, hike, or tour the old lighthouse at the park. On neighboring Orcas Island, Moran State Park holds over 5,000 majestic acres to explore. The park is the largest recreation area in the San Juan Islands, as well as one of the largest in Washington. You can hike, mountain bike, or ride horses through more than 30 miles of trails, some of which lead to the top of Mount Constitution, the highest point on any of the islands. The observation deck at the top of the peak has extraordinary views of the Puget Sound and beyond. Additionally, there are lots of hidden waterfalls to find at Moran State Park and several year-round campgrounds for you to use when you rent an RV in Friday Harbor.

RV Friendly

There are a limited number of camping spots that can accommodate your Friday Harbor motorhome rental while you visit the island, but there are still options. Lakedale Resort is a few miles out of town and has a store and a cafe on site, and stunning views of the water. La Conner RV Park and Camping Resort on the mainland is an option too and is quite close to the ferry terminal. There are waterfront camping sites, a clubhouse, a restaurant, and a store at this park.

City Attractions

It may come as a bit of a surprise to you, but this remote village in the islands is quite an interesting place to visit. The town is small but packed with lots of fun things to do. Seafood restaurants, breweries, art galleries, and trendy shops line the streets of downtown Friday Harbor, and several area attractions await you when you arrive in town and rent an RV. The Whale Museum has been in operation since 1979, teaching generations of people about the stoic creatures of the ocean. The museum promotes the preservation of ocean creatures and the environment in which they live. There are incredible exhibits and massive whale skeletons for people to observe. The San Juan Islands Museum of Art oozes culture, with contemporary art, art created by locals, and of course, the iconic indigenous art from the Salish people and other regional tribes.

John was very accommodating with my millions of inquiries prior to the trip and more during. It was our first time not just to drive an RV but to use it in camping as well and it was a great experience from start to finish. The rv was easy to drive and use, of course with the huge help of John explaining everything to us during walk-through. We had a very comfortable shelter while we experienced the beautiful outdoors. John is an amazing host. We will definitely book this again for our next camping trip. Thank you so much!

Our family of four (two kids aged 7 and 5) spent a few nights on Pender Island over Spring Break. The bus was so setup with everything we needed.
