Laramie, Wyoming is a moderately-sized town in the southwest corner of this very rural state. It is situated around 50 miles west of the state's capital, Cheyenne, while Denver, Colorado is around 130 miles to the south. The Medicine Bow National Forest is found nearby and offers countless recreational opportunities in both the winter and summer.

Museums, monuments, and historical sites dot the area. In addition to the nearby national forest, numerous natural sites, animal sanctuaries, parks, and trails are available to enjoy the expansive countryside of the local region.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

When you book an RV in Laramie, you will have access to many unique locales, including the Deerwood Ranch Wild Horse EcoSanctuary. Jeep tours of the site are available but only from May through September, due to the area's lengthy winter season. Some ATV tours are also available where you can enjoy the scenic, Wyoming countryside.

The Laramie River Greenbelt Trail parallels the Laramie River for around eight miles near town. The paved trail is open for walking, biking, and snow sports. It offers views of town, the surrounding countryside and local wildlife sightings, especially of various birds, when in season. Some sun shelters and benches are available along the course of the trail.

Numerous outdoor sites can be found locally. These include the Curt Gowdy State Park, the Medicine Bow National Forest, and the Bamforth National Wildlife Refuge. Vedauwoo Campground is located less than 20 miles to the east of town, in Buford, Wyoming. This is a national forest campground, so the amenities it offers are more rustic. Vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables are all available. The site is open May through November. The claim to fame of this area is the unique rock formations that are found here. Numerous hiking trails are offered to help you enjoy these sites, and some rock climbing and scrambling is allowed as well.

Due to its very rural location, there is only one Walmart available near town. There is also a truck stop in Laramie that offers showers, as well as numerous other gas stations and grocery stores where you can refresh your supplies. Many of these locales are used to handling large vehicles, so you may be able to camp in their parking lots, just speak with the manager first. As the town is located directly off of I-80, RV rental near Laramie is common, so plenty of services are available locally.

EXPLORING THE CITY

There’s numerous, interesting attractions near Laramie. The Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site is found in town. The prison was in use from the late 1800's to the early 1900's and now serves as a museum. Notable criminal Butch Cassidy was once an inmate here.
