Ease into hiking by walking the two-and-a-half-mile Heritage Nature Trail which begins at the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center. Most of the trails in the park are lined with woodchips, and many have boardwalks and bridges around the wetland areas. Because the park is situated between two lakes, boating and water sports are popular activities for visitors. There are boat launches at both lakes which allow for easy access to the water. Lake Cadillac has a kayak and canoe launch. There are specific areas within Mitchell State Park that allow visitors to use their metal detectors.
