Keokuk County, Iowa is a rural community filled with rich farmlands and blossoming businesses. In the middle of the county, you’ll find Sigourney, also referred to as the County’s seat. The county courthouse stands at the middle of the square, showcasing its conventional revival style structures featuring a cupola and clock tower.
First opened for settlement in 1843, the town actually didn't get up and running until 1844. The first cabin was built during this time. The town was named after a poet, Lydia Sigourney, and to this day, there is a portrait of her hanging in the courthouse foyer.
Iowa City lies around an hour northeast of the city, while the smaller city of Ottumwa is less than 45 miles southwest.
