Rock Creek State Park is located about seven miles west of Grinnell and just four miles from Newton in Central Iowa. Sitting on the eastern part of Jasper County, Rock Creek State Park got its name from Rock Creek that cuts through the park. The 602-acre Rock Creek Lake is the main feature of this state park. With over 15 miles of shorelines, this lake is best known for its fishing. There are many boat launches and docks conveniently located along the lake.
With over 1,690 acres, this park is an outdoor enthusiast paradise. This is a popular RV destination not only for its beauty but also for its outdoor activities. The most common aquatic activities include boating and paddling. There are many multi-use trails surrounding the lake and traversing the park forest. Rock Creek State Park offers a secluded campground right on Rock Creek. Located on the east shore of Rock Creek Lake, the campground is open May through September and offers 200 campsites where you can park your travel trailer rental. There are electric, non-electrical, and primitive campsites to choose from.
Campsites close to the lake are more exposed to the sun, while those further from the water tend to have more shade. Campsites are open for reservation up to three months in advance. Leashed pets are welcome at the campground. This campground is more geared towards smaller trailers, but there are a few sites that can accommodate large trailers. Should you intend to camp with a large motorhome reservation is strongly recommended.
