Don’t forget to explore the outside grounds of the building to discover the site of the first Fort Smith and a reconstruction of the Fort Smith Gallows. Should you have a keen interest in the history of Arkansas’ railroads, Fort Smith Trolley Museum is a must-visit. The small museum, run by volunteers, houses a collection of railcars and showcases that demonstrate the evolution of the railroad over the years. However, the real highlight of this museum is the short ride on one of the historic trollies. With an informative commentary during your ride told by the friendly driver, this is a must-visit attraction for sure. Consider taking the kids to the Parrot Island Waterpark situated in the heart of Fort Smith. This tropical-themed park is a perfect family activity on a hot day. With a giant wave pool, four fun slides, a lazy river, a water sports area and plenty of lifeguards on duty, this is a fun afternoon for both adults and children alike. Either bring a picnic to enjoy or purchase refreshments from one of the kiosks in the park and enjoy lunch in-between slide runs!
