While visiting Illinois, you'll want to check out the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home National Historic Site. The house, located in Dixon, is where the 40th U.S. president spent part of his youth, moving into this home in 1920 when he was just nine years old. Reagan lived in the home until he graduated from Eureka College in 1932. The home has been fully restored and is now a historic site where visitors can learn more about Ronald Reagan before he left Illinois for Hollywood and eventually the White House. The Franklin Creek State Natural Area in Franklin Grove is designated as a state park and encompasses 882 acres. Visitors can hike through ravine forests, under large bedrock outcroppings, and next to fantastic streams and springs. Bring along your camera to capture some social media worthy selfies to share with your friends and followers. There's a scenic picnic area that sits right outside the preserve and is a great place to enjoy a relaxing lunch with family and friends. Head over to Amboy and visit the Amboy Depot Museum, a former rail station that was built to be the headquarters of the Illinois Central Railroad in the late 19th century. The two-story building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places since being fully renovated and restored to its former glory. The grounds that were once the rail yard have been preserved and made into a city park. The museum, housed within the depot, has a retired steam engine and a caboose. A fully restored one-room schoolhouse is next to the depot and a great place to go to step back in time.
