The islands of the Puget Sound, much like the rest of Washington, are blessed with fantastic wilderness areas, lush forests, and magnificent stretches of coastline. On Whidbey Island alone, there are a few state parks you can head to in your Oak Harbor camper rental without straying too far from town. Fort Ebey State Park is a wonderful recreation area located at the former site of Fort Ebey. What was once a military defense fort built during WWII is now a marvelous place to hike on scenic shorelines. Guests can picnic, go fishing, paraglide, and even camp at the park in an Oak Harbor RV rental. Deception Pass State Park is one of the most visited parks in all of Washington, with well over two million visitors per year. The park lies on either side of Deception Pass and is home to the iconic Deception Pass Bridge that is vital to the local economy. Aside from camping and hiking, you can enjoy serene beaches, kayak or swim in the water, or watch spectacular sunsets over the water. Larrabee State Park is yet another public recreation area but unlike the other two, it is located on the mainland. A short drive over the bridge in your Oak Harbor RV rental will get you back to the mainland, where you only need to drive north along the water towards the town of Bellingham. The park was the first ever established in the entire state of Washington, founded back in 1915. There are hiking and biking trails that carry guests throughout the park and up to the peak of Chuckanut Mountain where you can enjoy panoramic views of the area. There are two freshwater lakes, beaches along the sound, an amphitheater for live events, and a few campgrounds capable of accommodating your Oak Harbor luxury motorhome rental if you feel the urge to stay an extra day. If you head down to Fort Casey back on Whidbey Island, you can take the ferry to the mainland over by Olympic National Park. Doing so can spare you a long drive, but road tripping all the way around to the park is an option too if you have the time for it. Olympic National Park is home to the Olympic Mountain Range. The snow-capped peaks of Mount Olympus, named for the legendary home of the gods in Greek mythology, can be seen all the way from Seattle on clear days. Aside from mountains, there are rocky coastlines, tidal estuaries, subalpine meadows, and temperate rainforest to explore.
