Choccolocco Lake is a reservoir in Choccolocco, Alabama. The lake and the town are both located in Calhoun County. The county was named for John C. Calhoun, an antebellum senator from South Carolina. Calhoun is considered one of the most influential United States senators in history. His theories about state power and federalism are credited with providing ideological strains that led to the US Civil War. Choccolocco is named for the Choccolocco band of Muscogee Creek Native Americans.
