Acton, CA, is a small western-themed residential community, whose historical buildings were first constructed back in the early 1800s. Some homes in the valley are ranches, a few of which have equestrian facilities; homes farther up in the Sierra Pelona Mountains surrounding Acton have breathtaking views of the town and valley beneath them. The size of the town is slightly less than 40 square miles.
Acton began as a railroad camp in 1873; the camp was disassembled in 1876 but, in 1887, it was founded again by two miners. The revitalized town became a center for the mines in the area that were producing gold, copper and titanium ore, and continued in this manner into the early 1900s. In the late 1880s, ranching and farming became increasingly important industries in Acton, and 1889 saw the opening of the 49er, Acton's first hotel and saloon; the 49er still exists and operates in Acton today.
Acton has several claims to fame. Nearby Parker Mountain was the venue for a former world speed record of 302 mph. Acton is also a popular location for filmmakers and the town has appeared in TV shows (Malcolm in the Middle, Sons of Anarchy, Reno 911, Falling Skies and The Big Bang Theory), music videos (Tom Petty, Metallica, Radiohead and Taylor Swift) and movies (Blood Work, Windtalkers, Terminator 3, Titanic and more). Booking an RV rental in Acton could be the chance you've been waiting for to stargaze, in more ways than one.
